U.S. Department of Homeland Security Discussed How Biometrics will Streamline Entry & Exit Procedures; and Routehappy Revealed their Anticipated 2018 Wi-Fi Report

LOS ANGELES (7 February 2018) – Last week, the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) hosted nearly 200 of the airline industry’s top technology innovators in Los Angeles to discuss the latest advancements in inflight technology and the state of aviation industry.

APEX unveiled its biometrics passenger initiative to speed up international travel. U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Deputy Executive Director Daniel Tanciar was on hand along with Deputy Director, Innovation and Business Development, Rebecca Baer of San Jose Int’l Airport (SJC) to share how biometric exit allows passengers to be verified automatically in less than two seconds when exiting the U.S.

When entering the U.S., airports with biometric entry have reported making entry speed up to 10 times faster with passengers from entire aircraft cleared in as little as 20 minutes. With facial recognition technology, passengers are going to be able to board without a boarding pass. It’s their vision that a passenger’s passport will become a backup document in the next 10 years.

“Last year APEX was the leading industry voice advocating for against the U.S. in-flight electronics ban. This year, airports and airlines will enable biometric exit for entry for more in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs and Boarder Protection,” APEX CEO Joe Leader stated. “APEX welcomes his new era of air travel where the need for boarding passes, ID, and passports will become secondary; and where airlines will have the capability to instantly recognize and appreciate their individual passengers while increasing security and safety.”

During the first day of APEX TECH, Routehappy, the rich content platform for flight shopping, officially released its 2018 Wi-Fi Report. Unveiled exclusively to attendees at APEX TECH, the report provides a comprehensive worldwide overview of inflight Wi-Fi that includes growth of Wi-Fi technology for both major and smaller airlines across the globe.

APEX TECH also featured airline executives from JetSuite, World Airways, Finnair and Aeroméxico, as well as representatives from the American Council of the Blind, Red Bee Media, ACCESSWG, Panasonic Avionics, Bluebox, Inmarsat, Lufthansa Systems and Zodiac Aerospace.

Some of the other topics discussed at APEX TECH included: ancillary revenues driven by data, cloud-based data sciences, customer touchpoints and ecostructure, the digital customer experience, airline connectivity requirements, PaxEx technology for the airline of the next decade and accessible interfaces for the blind.
