APEX Delegation Meets with Chinese Airlines, Industry Partners to Discuss Regional Needs for Rapidly

(NEW YORK) – A delegation from the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) recently concluded a series of meetings with key Chinese airlines, industry associations and media groups as part of an initiative to exchange ideas and discuss the needs of the rapidly growing airline industry in that region. APEX representatives called the “China Road Trip” a timely and important chance to gain further insight on how Chinese airlines are approaching inflight entertainment, connectivity and other passenger services.

The Road Trip included high-level meetings with China’s national carriers, Air China (Star Alliance), China Southern (Skyteam), China Eastern (Skyteam) and Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific (One World), as well as privately owned carriers Juneyao Airlines and the China Air Transport Association.

China is one of the largest and fastest growing markets for all sectors of civil aviation, and the growth forecast is strong.

“The Chinese Airline industry is growing at an impressive pace. The airlines we visited in China are looking at the latest trends in IFE, in-flight WIFI and other passenger services that enhance the passenger experience, and in some areas, such as personalized customer services, that are going beyond what many carriers offer.” noted Chris Babb, immediate past president of APEX, and manager, customer experience, for Delta Air Lines. “More peer-to-peer exchange through the APEX platforms would be valuable for both the Chinese and other airlines throughout Asia.”

The mission of APEX is to provide a platform for conducting business, strengthening relationships, and sharing knowledge and information which in turn is driving innovation and improving the airline passenger experience. The China visit was one way in which APEX is reaching out to an ever widening global base, said Russell A. Lemieux, executive director of APEX.

"In addition to delivering value through our member-exclusive Annual APEX EXPO, the APEX Board of Directors is committed to providing members services and experiences in all regions of the globe, including more regional special topical seminars and educational sessions," Lemieux said. “APEX very much looks forward to hosting an educational event in Asia in the near future to serve the industry in China as well as the entire Asia region.”
