APEX, IFSA Land Airline Industry Guru Edward Shapiro for EXPO Keynote

Tuesday, August 26, 2014
(NEW YORK) – In an industry as fast-paced and exciting as the airline passenger experience, some strategies are far likelier than others to succeed. It’s an environment where it pays to be aggressively informed and ambitious – which is why the APEX/IFSA EXPO selected one of the industry’s leading experts to kick off a day of riveting educational programming. Edward Shapiro, partner and vice president of PAR Capital Management and longtime investor in airlines, services and IFEC, has an unmatched perspective on the factors driving the passenger experience and recently was chosen to give the keynote address at the APEX/IFSA EXPO.

The APEX/IFSA EXPO – the largest industry-driven tradeshow devoted to the entire passenger experience – will be 15-18 September in Anaheim, California USA. The event is expected to draw 3,500 attendees and is hosted by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) and the International Flight Services Association (IFSA). Click here to register.

In addition to his experience as an investor, Shapiro is chairman of Global Eagle Entertainment, Legend 3D Inc. and Lumexis Corporation and a director of Sonifi Solutions. He is a member of the Wharton Undergraduate Board at the University of Pennsylvania, vice chairman of the Trust Board for Boston’s Children’s Hospital, a board member of The Rashi School in Dedham, Mass. and Combined Jewish Philanthropies in Boston. Previously, Shapiro served on the board of US Airways. He also served as a vice president at Wellington Management Company and was an analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co.

“We are honored to have Mr. Shapiro kick off our 2014 EXPO. His airline savvy and reputation for knowing what will and won’t move this industry promises invaluable insight into how airlines are leveraging technology, differentiating products and generating new sources of ancillary revenue. I’m sure attendees will gain some new perspective on how the rapidly evolving media and entertainment industries are impacting the airline passenger experience,” said Alfy Veretto, president of APEX and manager of IFE and Partnerships at Virgin America. “Coming from an airline, I’m personally excited to hear what Mr. Shapiro has to say about where our industry is headed.”

Shapiro’s keynote address will kick off a series of educational seminars and discussions of topics that are moving the airline passenger experience. Below are a few highlights.

  • How will the "Internet of Everything" change everything? Take a close look at the aviation industry, presented by Howard Charney, Cisco.
  • What is next in cabin innovation? Airbus presents how cabins are effectively and efficiently designed to meet the needs of passengers and airlines.
  • What prevalence will closed captioning have inflight? Hear an update on the issue straight from Washington D.C.
  • Music labels and royalty agencies discuss how airlines and CSPs can best work with them in light of recent changes to licensing processes.
