Airlines honored by passengers at Awards Ceremony in Anaheim

(ANAHEIM, CALIF. USA) – Virgin America once again was named passengers’ top pick, taking home the coveted Best Overall Passenger Experience award for the 2014 Passenger Choice Awards. It’s the airline’s second consecutive win in that category. The Passenger Choice Awards are the culmination of a year of passenger voting, and airlines were honored for excellence in every aspect of the passenger experience at the Airline Passenger Experience Association’s annual EXPO in Anaheim, Calif. USA.

The awards program gives the voting power to airline passengers, who can rate their travel experience through an online survey at www.passengerchoiceawards.com. The Nielsen Company, a globally recognized consumer measurement and information leader, tabulates the results.

“In 13 languages and available around the globe, the Passenger Choice Awards is by far one of the most impressive and comprehensive passenger surveys of its kind,” said Dominic Green, APEX Events & EXPO chair. “It’s a huge benefit to the airline industry to have this kind of candid data at their fingertips, and it’s the passengers who ultimately benefit from it.”

The awards program comprises 13 categories, ranging from best food and beverage to best cabin experience. In its fifth year, the Passenger Choice Awards are recognized as a leading way to measure industry excellence and to garner direct passenger feedback.

Best in Region: Africa - ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES
Best in Region: Americas - VIRGIN AMERICA
Best in Region: Asia and Australasia - GARUDA INDONESIA
Best in Region: Europe - NORWEGIAN
Best in Region: Middle East - EMIRATES
John White Publication Award - GULF AIR
Best IFE User Interface - VIRGIN ATLANTIC AIRWAYS, LTD
Best Inflight Connectivity & Communications - NORWEGIAN
Best Inflight Video - VIRGIN AMERICA
Best Cabin Ambiance - VIRGIN AMERICA
Best Food & Beverage (in conjunction with the International Flight Services Association) - TURKISH AIRLINES
Best Ground Experience - VIRGIN AMERICA

Lee Casey of Lumexis and Mark Horton of Paramount Pictures each received 2014 Lifetime Achievement Awards.

APEX also recognized two member companies for innovation and contribution to the industry with the annual Avion Awards. These awards were judged by industry peers and members of the media.

Norwegian: Interactive ‘Geotainment’ moving map

Avion Award: Best Achievement in Technology
ViaSat Inc.: Exede In The Air In-Flight Internet

The Newcomer of the Year Award is presented to a new association member company. This year’s award was presented to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.
